I reboot into Ubuntu and get to the desktop. Good, but no network.

Device manager does not show that a network adapter exists. We can't even start talking about drivers, because as far as Win7 is concerned, there is no onboard LAN!

When I plug in the ethernet cable I get a green light right away, on steady then either the orange light doesn't come on, or sometimes it blinks a few times then goes out. During boot Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4 Realtek LAN blinks a couple times.

I was running bios F8, but I reflashed it, loaded the defaults, booted Win7, still nada. Is it possible that something Ubuntu does causes the hardware to get smoked?

That is crazy, but I'm pulling my damned hair out! Stupid thing was working fine, then all of a sudden doesn't work!?
